Coronavirus COVID-19 Response

Life in the wake of the COVID-19 is full of questions, but we know that Jesus is still King, and God’s Church is still on mission.
In light of the general shift toward sanitization, isolation and protective measures to slow down the spread of this virus, we will be altering our worship plans for further notice. Check back here or in our Eternal Church app for the latest info on how we are responding and redirecting our church behaviors.
PHASES OF RE-OPENING OUR CHURCH
On May 19, we began to outline how our church will participate with the re-opening of Community groups, larger gatherings, and worship services while maintaining preventative measures in accordance with our local authorities.   To read more about the timeline of phases and specific information regarding each phase, click here.

Caring for our community

During our Spring 2020  sermon series, a common theme we've discovered is how God has given lots to some so that they may be, as Amos said, like a river of righteousness towards others. During this time of crisis, we discover that within our church community we have both those who have a surplus as well as those who are in need.
To respond to this, Eternal Church is organizing a COVID RELIEF EFFORT which will respond to both the desire to give and the opportunity to receive within our church community right here in Fort Mill.
Click here to hear from Pastor Don as he explains more about this church initiative.

2020-03-17 6:00 PM -
“You’re not in church until you’re in community.”
So what happens when you can’t physically be “in” either one?
As the rest of the country and world “shelters in place,” how do we, as God’s people, respond in a way that communicates loving concern for our local community but bold Gospel conviction in the face of widespread fear and anxiety?
This is the problem of our day.

I follow a blogger/thinker named Seth Godin. He recently wrote the following post:

OF COURSE IT IS A DIFFICULT PROBLEM
All the easy ones are already solved.
Difficult problems are precisely what we signed up for, right?
Or, at the very least, the only problems that are left.
Difficult problems are rarely solved immediately, and sometimes they’re not solved the way we might have imagined, but with effort, they often yield.

We are not cancelling church. We can’t.  We are church.
Did you know that God’s Word actually speaks of a time (several, actually) where God’s people were displaced, and they had to find a set of new ways to be “The Way?” The early Church saw a similar situation when “The Great Persecution” began:
Acts 8:1b “And there arose on that day a great persecution against the church in Jerusalem, and they were all scattered throughout the regions of Judea and Samaria, except the apostles.”
The Church was scattered, but not stopped. In fact, the persecution actually led to scattering, sowing and growing (think of the Parable of the Sower).
Acts 8:4 Now those who were scattered went about preaching the word.
People were released from unclean spirits by Christians. Sick people were healed by Christians. Unbelievers became believers. Simon the Magician. The Ethiopian Eunuch. Even Saul – the ring-leader of the great persecution – saw the light and started following Jesus during this time. Great faith by God’s people during great trials led to great acts…and to God getting great glory.

We are not cancelling community. We can’t.  We are community.
Sure, it’ll look a little different than we’re used to. But God’s chosen race (royal priesthood) has always looked a little peculiar to the rest of the world.
How will you “do” community in the short-term?
  1. Phone: This one should be obvious, but call and text your family. Your friends. Your next-door neighbors. Your community group. Ask how they’re doing physically. Emotionally. Spiritually. (Ask “How can I pray for you today?”)
  2. Email: I know this one is a little more “old school,” but it still works…especially for those ideas that are more than a soundbite or GIF. This is great for scheduling and organizing the next option…
  3. Video Conference (Skype, Zoom, FaceTime, Google Meet, etc.): This is where the magic happens! Somehow you can be alone…but together. No, you can’t hug or high five, but you also can’t cough on each other or infect one-another. But you CAN share stories, share prayer requests, share insights from God’s Word and reflections on last week’s sermon. Businesses have used this software (in some capacity) for the past decade to facilitate remote learning, remote delegating and deploying and remote operations when crises prevented standard operations.
  4. Social Media (Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, etc.): This may not allow for the deepest, most intimate connections, but it is social! Stay connected, reach out to someone you haven’t heard from in a while. Encourage people to trust in the Lord with all their heart and lean not onto their own understanding. There are new ways to leverage “Groups” in Facebook that may allow for video conference and group sharing, as well. Stay tuned for opportunities here!
  5. Eternal Church App: Huh? How does the church app allow for connection? Two ways:
    • News & Updates: Keep up to date with the latest Eternal Church changes and adjustments as we hear the latest news from national, state and local authorities
    • Messaging (Beta): Did you know that you can message others in the church…right from within the Eternal Church app? YOU CAN! Don’t believe me? From the Home screen, tap the hamburger icon (☰) in the upper-left-hand corner. “Messaging” should be the second option, below “Eternal.” If you want to activate this feature for your Community Group, Ministry Team or Small Group, let Jacob know and he’ll contact you to get you setup. Sure, you could do this through standard text messages, but this allows for your most important relationship connections at church to live right within the church app. Another reason to come back here regularly!
You have never had more opportunities remain connected; so what will you do?
It’s up to you! Be the church right where you are. Build community right where you are. If you need further instructions or clarification on how any of these options work, don’t hesitate to reach out to us. We’re here to fortify our fellowship and take what the world sees as a setback to use as a setup for the Gospel.

2020-03-16 2:00 PM - We will be canceling all in-person corporate church gatherings for the next 2 weeks, until Monday, March 30, 2020. This includes (but is not limited to) weekly Community Groups (Men's/Women's), Women's Ministry Quarterly Gathering, Men's Ministry Breakfast. The Shack (church office) will observe this 2 week closure for all church activities as well. Please let the members of your groups/ministries know of this temporary closure so we can observe and obey these best practices to "reduce the curve," and love our community well. We will re-evaluate the situation and make adjustments to this plan on 3/30/2020.
